Social Hardware develops Collaborative Robots (COBOT) for various industrial applications, primarily for defense use-cases such as ordinance-disposal, hostage situations, surveillance, etc, using prosthetics, bionics, and assistive technology. In 2023, the company evolved into a deep tech firm, merging bionics with robotics and Extended Reality (XR) to create a master-slave mechanism to operate the COBOTs from a safe-distance with the precision and dexterity of a human hand. The tech has been developed in collaboration with and approval from Department of Military Affairs (DMA), for which deliveries begin in late-2024.

Social Hardware: Providing free prosthetics for India’s labor force

As a growing economy, India is experiencing a surge in industrialization, and construction accidents are on the rise, which in turn is spurring a huge demand for prosthetics.

We spoke to Abhit K, Co-Founder at Social Hardware, which aims to replace costly overseas imports with locally manufactured prostheses, enabling non-profit organizations to help more people, faster, and at much lower cost than existing international supply chains.
